Asparagus "Mary Washington"
While it's true that this plant won't give you a good crop for a few years yet, it won't be hard to look after till then and as one of the very few long-lived perennial veggies, it goes without saying that it's a worthy investment in the veg garden!
Keep this plant in its pot, ensuring it stays moist in a light and relatively cool place until you're ready to plant it out in its final place next spring. Be sure to prepare the bed with plenty of organic matter. Do not harvest the spears until the 3rd year. Cut down and compost any foliage in November to remove Asparagus Beetle eggs.
